For 20 years, Linutronix has been one of the leading drivers of real-time Linux for industrial applications. The company is now also featured in the Smart Automation market overview with its IGLOS platform. In addition to the open, Linux-based platform, the company’s offerings include consulting and services, particularly with regard to ensuring cybersecurity for customers’ own software.

Linutronix was founded 20 years ago in Uhldingen-Mühldorf in the Lake Constance district. Founder Thomas Gleixner is one of the driving forces behind real-time Linux in the Linux open-source community. Together with co-founder Heinz Egger, he transitioned to an advisory role at the end of 2025 and handed over management to Dr. Wilfried Wessner.

The team, which has since grown to 35 employees, spends about two-thirds of its time maintaining customers’ software applications, in addition to further developing the Linux kernel and the IGLOS platform. The fact that little has been written about this yet is primarily due to the customers’ discretion. They are well aware that by relying on the Linux platform, they have a significant competitive advantage and are keeping a low profile for now. According to Dr. Wessner, however, the announcement of some well-known client names is expected in the near future.

Over the next few years, the company hopes to increasingly make its platform its main revenue driver and continue its growth in this direction.
