SMART AUTOMATION – The Platforms Market Overview
The New Market Of Open Smart Automation Platforms
In addition to brief information about the providers on the Smart Automation landing page, this market overview offers a comparative view: the first table shows important aspects of the openness of the platforms; the second lists application areas for which the platforms offer apps from manufacturers, customers and partners.
This market overview is independent and manufacturer-neutral. It is based on our own survey in which the listed providers took part in March and April 2024.
The market overview and the survey on which it is based are continuously being developed. Observing the market for open industrial platforms is now also a thematic focus of the Industry Digitalization news portal.
Important changes are updated promptly after manufacturers report them. The Smart Automation market overview is updated every six months before the Hanover Fair and the SPS.
Subpages of individual suppliers provide detailed information about the special features of their solution and their offering. The subpages reflect the position and market view of the respective supplier.

The Openness of the Platforms
All platforms listed here are open for supplementary software from customers and partners. The term "own operating system" generally refers to a runtime environment based on the Linux operating system. The Industrie 4.0 Asset Administration Shell is currently supported in the form of individual submodels, as a final status has not yet been reached.
Application Areas of the Platforms
This matrix shows that Smart Automation solutions are by no means limited to production. Remote access to machines and products as well as condition monitoring, for example, are supported by many. The list of fields of application is likely to grow even longer.
