Strategy / Vision for PLM

During the entire life cycle of a product, a great amount of data is generated. The challenge is to completely collect this data, systematically create consistency across the relevant company processes and to centrally make it available to all employees so that they can find the relevant information and use it effectively. PLM is therefore the basic data technology framework for the successful development of complex systems and is an essential component for the digitalisation of industry. With the right solutions for you, you can leverage a wide range of potentials, from more efficient handling of processes in engineering to higher utilisation of your plants.

Core competencies / main areas of education

Of our eight focus topics, four are especially relevant for industrial digitalisation: Advanced Systems Engineering aims to integrate the diverse aspects of systems engineering and advanced engineering. In the context of Work 4.0, we are shaping the workplaces, structures and processes of the future working world with the help of modern technologies, work equipment and methods. We support our partners in the company-wide digital transformation and look at the transformation process as well as the individual design fields of digitalisation in industry. With the help of industrial data analytics, we improve industrial value creation at all levels.

In addition to the technical focal points, we offer the IEM Academy as a separate point of contact for in-service qualification relating to our focal topics.

Industry partners and projects

We work together with major tool vendors in the MBSE, CaX and PLM environment, major partners from DAX and M-DAX to hidden champions in the SME environment from all industries (aerospace and automotive to mechanical and plant engineering).

Our success story brochures from the Fraunhofer IEM provide an impression of our work (www.iem.fraunhofer.de/de/newsroom/broschuere-erfolgsgeschichten.html).

Typical projects focus on topics such as:

  • Introduction of MBSE
  • Mechatronic modularisation
  • Reorganisation of development processes
  • Systems Engineering coaching
  • Mechatronic system description
  • Training and coaching for SE and PLM
  • Tool benchmarks and tailoring for MBSE
  • Reference architectures
